Drawing, painting is like breathing to me: I do it already all my life and it can’t be switched off. By making images I discover myself and my place in the world.
To capture the many impressions of the long journeys to Japan & Australia I switched to photography.
Now, when working on paper, with a variety of materials, I make another trip, destination unknown, but with an emphasis on being en route, on surprising myself. During this process I try to let go, to avoid formulating, conscious thought in order set hand and intuition free. The end result may be a swamp, a maze, but sometimes I find myself in a place where I have never been before, nor with any knowledge of how I got there, 'just like that'.
Those are the moments where one works, breathes for.
